Reading Clips is designed to let you save passages and other information from your reading while keeping your information under your control. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app stores and how that information is handled by the developer, Scribner Messenger.
Information Stored by the App
Reading Clips may store information that you enter or create in the app, including:
- Information about books, articles, and other sources
- Clips and excerpts
- Tags
- Notes that you enter
- Photographs of covers, title pages, and other pages
- Text recognized from photographed pages
- Dates and other information associated with your sources and clips
This information is stored locally on your device. Reading Clips does not use CloudKit to synchronize this information between devices.
The app does not require you to create an account with the developer.
If you use an Apple device-backup service, such as iCloud Backup, locally stored app data may be included in your device backup according to your Apple settings and Apple's backup practices. This is a device-backup function provided by Apple and is not synchronization performed by Reading Clips.
Apple Services
Text Recognition
Reading Clips uses Apple's Vision framework to recognize text in photographs of pages. Apple's Vision text-recognition processing occurs on the user's device. Reading Clips does not send page photographs to the developer or to an outside service for text recognition.
Speech Recognition
When you use dictation features in Reading Clips, the app uses Apple's speech-recognition technology to convert speech to text. Depending on the device, operating-system capabilities, and Apple's handling of the recognition request, speech recognition may occur on the device or may involve Apple's speech-recognition services.
The developer does not receive your speech or recognized text as part of this process.
Information Collected by the Developer
The developer does not receive your sources, clips, photographs, recognized text, tags, notes, or other app content during ordinary use of Reading Clips.
Reading Clips does not use advertising, analytics, tracking technologies, third-party advertising networks, or third-party data-collection services.
Reading Clips does not collect location information.
Exporting Your Information
Reading Clips allows you to export information, including clips, in Text or Word format. Exporting occurs only when you choose to do so.
The app uses Apple's sharing system to let you choose where exported information is sent. Once you export or share information from the app, its handling depends on the destination or service you select. The privacy practices of that destination or service are outside the control of the developer.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if the app's features or privacy practices change. The current version will be made available with the app or on the Reading Clips website.
